In 2006 Giorgio bought a 4 Ha holding in the Bordini cru in 2005 directly from the last of the Bordini family to farm the vineyard over the last 300 years. Located in the commune of Nieve adjacent to the Starderi vineyard on it's furthest west corner. This was a great acquisition for the estate and boosts their holdings in Nieve to three vineyards, including the famed 5 Ha holding in Gallina and the 6.5 Ha holding in Starderi. Planted exclusively to Nebbiolo, Bordini yields an elegant Barbaresco, full of fruit and flowers. Giorgio made some quick changes to the viniculture and produced his first Barbaresco Bordini in 2006. Due to the very fine and elegant nature of Bordini Giorgio ages this wine for 20 to 22 months in 50% new French oak barrique and 50% in 2nd passage oak barrique - the toast levels are medium.
Barbaresco Bordini is full of beautiful red cherry fruit with a slightly dried and spiced note, the tannins are very elegant for Nebbiolo and it has layers of complexity. Like all of the wines from La Spinetta, Barbaresco Bordini has great texture and aromatics when young, but has the ability to age beautifully for 20 years.
