8.7 Ha holdings at the base of Monte Rosa, in hills around Lessona. Vineyards planted in 1960, 1970 and 2005. DOC Costa della Sesia, "Uvaggio" is a blend of Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Croatina from vineyards in Lessona and Bramaterra. The parental rock is igneous like Gattinara 15km away, but two major types of soil: 1) Yellow sands with igneous rock and 2) Gravel on a base of igneous rock. These soils slow the ripening of Nebbiolo and other varieties, the mineral sands help reduce the severity of the tannins and allow the elegant wines to be produced. Fermented in open top wood vats, 19 days on the skins and aged sur lie for 9 months, then aged in a combination of 15hl cask, tonneaux and barrique for another 18 months. Production: 12,000 bottles.
