The sandy soils of this region inhibited the growth of phylloxera that devastated so many winegrowing regions throughout the world. These unique conditions make it possible to harvest the grapes for this wine from 30-year-old ungrafted Tinta de Toro vines that are head-trained in goblet and planted -at a density of 445 vines per acre- in soils rich in organic materials, located in proprietary vineyards in Valdefinjas and Toro at an average altitude of 700 m (2,296 ft). Yields are 220 gal/acre. Careful hand harvesting of perfectly mature clusters with good sanitary conditions and additional selection made in the winery using a sorting table.
