This is an outrageously good rose wine, made in a style known in Rioja as "Clarete" this tradition is based primarily in the Oja River area and particularly in the valley of Najerilla. This blending of red and white grapes and using Garnacha from cool weather areas of Rioja makes possible this “Clarete”. Garnacha vines are 22-yrs-old on average; the Viura vines are 26-86 yrs. old, and Tempranillo vines are 18 yrs. old. Soils are 40% alluvial with gravel and 60% clay. In appearance the wine has salmon pink shades with very bright rose pink iridescence which make it an unusual and extremely attractive wine. Its aroma is enveloping and intense throughout - with a predominance of fresh fruit- citrus , pineapple, kiwi with a strong tendency towards sweet, ripe apple and quince. It concludes its olfactory display with a reminder of its contact with fine lees. In the retronasal phase, the fresh fruit remains in the background, with the ripe fruit and lees coming more to the fore. In the mouth, it is suggestive. On the one hand, the effect of the lees gives it width, the fruit provides sweetness, and, to finish, the fixed acidity livens it up a bit. In the mouth, traces of the lingering carbonic acid give it the typical refreshing character of this kind of wines. The aftertaste is long and honeyed, with an elegant and lingering touch of acidity. There are 12 hours of maceration followed by 25 days of fermentation in American oak, after 2 months in American oak vats the wine is bottled. 20% undergoes malolactic fermentation.
