Iron, smoke, white truffles, menthol, spices and anise are some of the many notes that meld together in the 2012 Roero La Val dei Preti. Juicy and expressive in this vintage, the Val dei Preti is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. I wouldn't wait too long, as the mid-weight structure suggests the 2012 is best suited to medium-term drinking, but all the elements are very nicely balanced just the same.
3.0 Ha holdings in Val dei Preti vineyard. 45 year old vines planted in an extremely steep vineyard, with southeast exposure. The top several feet of topsoil is sand, with clay and limestone below. Very difficult vineyard to work due to soft soils and steepness. A very soft and generous expression of Nebbiolo. Aged in large 100hl cask for 12 months. 100% Nebbiolo. Production: 15,000 bottles.
Maceration on the skins for 6-8 days with frequent punching down. Final alcoholic fermentation in barriques
