Azelia is located in the commune of Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo area, between the hard and powerful eastern valley, and the soft and supple western valley. Established in 1920 by Cavalier Lorenzo Scavino, the small farm began to produce everything the family needed. In 1967 Alfonso Scavino, son of Lorenzo, began making wine from the estate vineyards and bottled the first wines of the estate. Luigi Scavino is the third generation winemaker and is supported by his wife Lorella and his son Lorenzo. Luigi continues to apply what he learned from his father, together with suitable new ideas and respect for tradition. Wines are made from 100% estate grown fruit. Vineyard management is rigorous due to the belief that the wine is made in the vineyard, not the cellar. Azelia is known for producing Barolos that possess contemporary qualities that are rooted in tradition. It’s as if the wines have all the elegance of the ‘old ways’ in combination with beautiful fruit and concentration.
